Researchers at AcroMetrix recently announced the release of their new OptiQuant-S HCV RNA Qualification Panel. This new panel employs AcroMetrix’s internally developed, proprietary SynTuraâ„¢ Technology. This technology adds a critical component to laboratories to help them better optimize the Hepatitis C molecular assays that are currently available.
It’s common knowledge in the medical community that viral Hepatitis B and C comprise more than 75% of all liver disease cases around the world. The monitoring of 1 HCV patients for changes in the amount of viral load present has become routine as part of the treatment for the disease, which is why the accuracy of the results of viral load tests are so vital. AcroMetrix’s new panel will help labs and physicians by providing more accurate results during testing.

One of the unique aspects of the SynTuraâ„¢ Technology is that it involves second-generation viral RNA material. This material acts in a similar fashion to mammalian RNA viruses like HCV or HIV. With this new technology, users can now insert synthetic sequences into a mammalian RNA virus that’s shown to be stable in replication and able to form infectious RNase resistant virus particles.
This proprietary system gives the medical community greater assistance in designing defined RNA positive controls, quantification standards, internal controls and calibrators. However, it should be noted that SynTuraâ„¢ Technology is designed for research purposes only and should not be used in diagnostic procedures.
